Sermon 7: Blessed are the Merciful: Matthew 5:7

The progression laid out by Christ in the Sermon on the Mount to this point has emphasized the connection between who we are and how we think about ourselves. Matthew 5:7 redirects this progression into a new direction by showing how who we are shapes how we think about and relate to others. God wants us to understand that a fundamental part of being a Christian is reflecting God’s disposition toward sinners in their misery.
