We know looking for a new church family can be intimidating, whether you are new to our area or seeking to get re-connected in a gospel-centered church. My wife and I met while finishing up post-graduate studies at Pensacola Christian College. In the fall of 2008, we were married and came on staff at Anchor. After two years, we were sent out from Anchor as church planting missionaries, where Joel lead the Anchor Baptist Church in Cape Coast, Ghana, from an infant church plant to an independent, locally pastored church. In the early spring of 2018, God called our family back to our home church. While this decision was very difficult, especially for our children who had only known life in Ghana, we are so thankful for the opportunity to continue the Lord’s work in Maryland. Our time overseas stretched us in so many ways, but more than anything, reinforced in our minds the absolute necessity of passionate biblical exposition, mentoring young Christians in the faith, and careful articulation of sound doctrine. We look forward to getting to meet you if God sees fit to direct you to Anchor.
The Wagners joined the Anchor ministry team in July 2019, and added Jonathan to their family shortly after. Their ministry focus at Anchor, apart from regular involvement in the teaching and preaching ministries, includes children and teen related ministries, as well as technical administrative assistance. Chris has a Master of Divinity from Pensacola Theological Seminary and also serves in the U.S. Navy Reserve. His wife, Paige, holds a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Pensacola Christian College, and also serves on the office staff.
